In a bizarre twist from Purnea, Bihar, real estate activity has taken a dramatic—and illegal—turn. A group of land brokers reportedly constructed an unauthorized bridge across the Kari Koshi River in the Rahmat Nagar area, all in a bid to boost land prices in the surrounding region.
The bridge, roughly 60 feet long and 10 feet wide, was built without any permission from local authorities, including the Purnea Municipal Corporation (PMC). When officials from the PMC tried to intervene, they were met with resistance from local residents—allegedly influenced by those with vested interests in the land.
The motive is as clear as the concrete structure itself: accessibility equals value. By making the area easier to reach, the brokers hoped to make nearby plots more appealing to buyers, thereby increasing land prices.
But this shortcut to profit has raised serious concerns about unchecked development and the influence of local brokers. “No permission was taken for this construction,” said Municipal Commissioner Kumar Mangalam. “We’re investigating who’s behind this and taking necessary action.”
This incident is a stark reminder of how real estate speculation, if left unchecked, can spiral into illegal and unethical territory. Infrastructure projects, even small ones like a makeshift bridge, require proper approvals—not just to maintain legal order, but to ensure safety, sustainability, and responsible urban planning.

करीब 60 फीट लंबा और 10 फीट चौड़ा यह पुल रहमत नगर इलाके में बनाया गया है, जिससे आस-पास की जमीन को “आसान पहुँच” देकर ज्यादा दामों पर बेचा जा सके।
जब पूर्णिया नगर निगम (PMC) के अधिकारी मौके पर पहुंचे तो स्थानीय लोगों ने उन्हें रोक दिया। कहा जा रहा है कि ये लोग उन्हीं दलालों के कहने पर विरोध कर रहे थे।
नगर आयुक्त कुमार मंगलम ने बताया,
“इस पुल के निर्माण के लिए किसी प्रकार की अनुमति नहीं ली गई है। हम इसकी जांच कर रहे हैं और संबंधित लोगों पर कार्रवाई होगी।”
इस तरह की पहुंच-सुविधा से इलाके की जमीन अधिक आकर्षक लगती है, जिससे उसकी कीमत बढ़ती है। परंतु यह कदम कानून और शहरी नियोजन दोनों का खुला उल्लंघन है।
